Sports Mouth Guard in Keighley

Action on the field can cause unexpected accidents.

Whether you or your child is scoring goals on the football field, tackling opponents in rugby, or mastering skills in any contact sport, our custom-made sports mouth guards in Keighley, are designed to provide the ultimate defence against dental injuries.

Understanding sports mouth guards

Sports mouth guards are protective devices worn over the teeth to prevent dental injuries during physical activities and sports. They are specifically advised for contact sports like football, hockey, and boxing, but can also be beneficial for any activity where there’s a risk of impact to the face.

They are removable, easy to clean, and manufactured using advanced technology to ensure precise design. This combination of quality and innovation enhances both protection and performance, giving athletes the confidence to give their best.

Types of sports mouth guards

There are several types of sports mouth guards to choose from:

  • Stock mouth guards: Are pre-formed and ready to wear. You can buy them from routine sporting goods stores. While they’re affordable, they are not customised for your mouth. You may find them bulky and don’t always fit well.

The benefits of mouth guards in sports

The benefits of a mouth guard in sports go far beyond simply guarding teeth during physical activities. Let us see how:

Protection against contact sports injuries

Sports mouthguards minimise the risk of dental trauma. They prevent chipped or fractured teeth, as well as injuries to the jaw, lips, and tongue, by absorbing and redistributing the forces from facial impacts. As a protective barrier, it reduces the likelihood of emergencies but also helps athletes avoid costly and complex dental procedures later.

Sports mouthguards can indirectly enhance athletic performance. It makes you feel confident, not worry about getting hurt and fully focus on the game. This allows you to perform at your best.

Custom-made sports mouthguards are designed to fit perfectly and are comfortable, stable and durable. Unlike generic options, custom mouthguards minimise disruption to breathing during intense play and speaking, so you can communicate with teammates easily.

Regular use of a sports mouthguard helps ensure long-term oral health by protecting teeth from sports-related impacts. It reduces the risk of permanent dental problems, such as nerve damage, tooth sensitivity, and enamel wear.

  • Boil and bite mouth guards: Made from thermoplastic material, these guards are softened in boiling water and then moulded to your teeth using finger and tongue pressure. They provide a better fit than stock guards and are also widely available in stores.
  • Custom-fitted mouth guards: These are made by your dentist. At Taylored Dental Care, we make moulds of your mouth to specifically shape the mouth guard according to your teeth and gums. They offer unmatched comfort, protection, and fit, making them the best choice for serious athletes.

Frequently asked questions

The process typically involves two visits. During the first visit, we make impressions of your teeth. The dental lab then creates the custom mouth guard, typically within 1-2 weeks. At the second visit, we ensure it fits perfectly and make any necessary adjustments.

Yes, wearing a mouth guard is especially important for children with braces to protect both their teeth and the orthodontic braces. We can create custom-fitted mouth guards that accommodate the braces, providing the necessary protection and comfort.

Rinse the sports mouth guards after use, brush with a soft-bristle toothbrush and use mild toothpaste daily. Soak weekly in a cleaning solution; rinse thoroughly. Store in a ventilated case. Avoid hot water and harsh cleaners.

Customising sports mouth guards for nervous patients

Customising sports mouthguards for nervous patients demands a gentle and patient approach. Here’s how we at Taylored Dental Care do it:

  • Making moulds and impressions easily: We show the patient the materials and tools that we will use for the process. In case you have an exaggerated gag reflex or feel nauseous with the material we offer 3D digital scans and a completely digital workflow for you. We are happy to demonstrate the process on a non-dental object to show how the impression process will feel.
  • Comfort checks: During the fitting, we frequently check in with the patient to ensure the mouth guard feels comfortable and make any necessary adjustments.
  • Follow-up: Offer a follow-up appointment to check on the fit and comfort of the sports mouth guard, and to address any further concerns.

I needed some extractions and I needed dentures, Taylored dentists, took me along the procedure from the start to completion. Tony removed my old teeth and Mathew made the dentures and moulded and shaped them to fit perfectly. Anyone, thinking of getting any work done, couldn't, ask for better help and reassurance than Taylored dentists in Keighley. Totally painless and satisfaction guaranteed.

I can’t rate Taylored Dental Care highly enough. I decided to join the new practice in Keighley after leaving a private practice in Leeds. Fed up of travelling a long distance to a city centre dentist with no parking.
So firstly the new practice is conveniently located with parking.
But wait until you enter! You will be welcomed by a very friendly and professional team in very smart plush modern environment like a 5 star hotel 🌟
Charlotte looked after me beautifully and assisted me in signing up for my new private dental plan. Then I was seen and examined by dentist Roy who could not have been nicer. Roy was friendly and explained all the new patient dental examination procedures to me.
I have never experienced such amazing kind and informative patient care in either a dentist or a hospital before.
I will be recommending Taylored Dental Care in Keighley to all of my friends.

I had a tooth extracted with Dr Graham recently. The procedure itself was smooth and the staff were professional and friendly. However I did experience an electric shock kinda feeling which was due to the needle hitting a nerve. This did cause some discomfort but Dr Graham was very attentive and provided helpful advice. Overall I appreciate the level of care delivered throughout.

Hopefully it’ll be back to normal soon, thank you

I have recently only joined Taylored Dental Care after being unhappy with my previous dentist and it was the best move I have made. Unfortunately I needed a tooth removing and I was extremely nervous as I do not do very well with anything surgical. I really didn't need to worry as Graham and his team did a fantastic job from start to finish, I didn't feel a thing, even the needle didn't bother me which was a first. The friendliness of the staff at this practice is fantastic and very welcome after previous encounters with other dentists that I have had. If you are thinking of trying them out or changing to Taylored Dental then my advice would be to do it at your earliest opportunity. I should have done it months ago!!
