What is the dentist 2 year rule?
The ‘2 year rule’ stems from an NHS guideline that adults should have a dental check-up at least every 2 years, even when nothing feels wrong. Private practices, including ours, normally recommend a more frequent rhythm of every 6 months, because early detection saves teeth and money. At our Wibsey practice we generally schedule check-ups twice a year.
What is the 80/20 rule in dentistry?
In dental terms, the 80/20 rule means that roughly 80% of problems develop in 20% of your teeth, almost always the molars at the back where plaque builds up and brushing is awkward. Keeping that small group of high-risk teeth clean is what keeps the rest of your mouth healthy. We always give those areas extra attention during your check-ups and hygiene visits.
Can a dentist prescribe diazepam?
A dentist can prescribe diazepam for dental anxiety, but most practices now prefer not to because of safety considerations and drug interactions. IV sedation, delivered by trained professionals in the practice, has replaced it for the majority of anxious patients.
